Welcome to the new server

Monday, 21 November 2011 08:10

This blog entry is coming to you from our new host server. It is based in Sydney rather than in the United States. We hope it provides a quicker response time for you both due to its location and its better spefications. There may be some initial teething issues - please let me know if you see any so that we can deal with them quickly.

Website gremlins!

Monday, 06 June 2011 00:00

Update 11 Jun 2011 - I think we have solved this gremlin. However investigations revealed that there are multiple causes/factors and certainly I would love to hear from anyone who experiences any continuation of the symptoms. Use the link at the bottom of the next paragraph.

Recently, some strange intermittent website behaviour has been seen. This includes prefixes appearing in front of the page URLs (such as j15. and fwww.), some "Invalid Token" messages on trying to login to the site, and some images not found messages. Despite investigation I have not so far been able to find the source of these probably related symptoms. It you notice any problems it would help the investigation if  you could send an email with any relevant information (including your browser version and what you were trying to do at the time).

Some things that you could try as workarounds for this issue include:

  • Checking to see if you have any strange prefix appearing before the nswagtc.org.au in the URL address bar at the top of your browser, and if so deleting this prefix and then hitting your enter button, and when the correct page has loaded then clicking on your page refresh button (the circular arrow icon) to refresh the links from that page.
  • Closing and opening your browser again - to clear its memory of pages you have visited.

If we cannot find a simpler more direct solution we will soon try to rebuild the site to see if this removes this annoying gremlin.

Website Makeover

Monday, 05 July 2010 09:30

On Sunday 4 July the NSWAGTC website had a major makeover. I hope you like its new look.

Undoubtedly there are some rough edges or inconsistencies that remain. Please let me know of any you see so that we can complete the tweaking phase!

In the future we will be introducing online payments for NSWAGTC memberships, event bookings and resources. Watch this space.

Check out the book reviews

Tuesday, 02 June 2009 10:16

Many parents, teachers and children will be interested in the large range of new book reviews that have been uploaded onto nswagtc.org.au's Reviews section by children's literature expert Catriona Coote - ranging from pre-readers to challenging books for older readers. And of course if you want to submit your own review or comment on one of the reviews on the site, we want to hear from you.

Lots of new reviews

Monday, 25 May 2009 16:53

Well, it has been a while since I have written, so I need to make up for lost time. First of all, you may or may not have noticed that Catriona Coote has been busy putting up a range of reviews of children's books on this site - simply hit the Reviews menu item so see the range of reviews for all types of readers.

Site downtime and eNewsletters...

Sunday, 22 March 2009 06:37

Apologies to all who were inconvenienced by our site being down from the afternoon of Thu 19 Mar for a little under 24 hours. More so as the cause and length of the downtime appears likely to have been, in part at least, preventable.

Site Upgrade

Thursday, 15 January 2009 10:35

I have upgraded the site this morning as a prelude to adding certain other functionality and to respond to comments that the old hybrid design site was a little too dense. Read about it in this article.

Did you know?

Gifted children vary a lot. Some are great at sports. Some have disabilities. Children can be gifted or not along one or more of a large number of dimensions. Labels like "gifted" need to be used carefully as all children are different.

NSWAGTC Blogs

The blogs appearing on the NSWAGTC site are designed to provide colour, news and subjective views about the many issues and concerns facing gifted children and their parents, care-givers and educators.

Some of the blogs are associated with formal roles of the NSWAGTC, such as the President and the Webmaster. These allow the persons filling these roles to note to members any current news and changes.

Other NSWAGTC blogs are written by individuals with experience of gifted children from one or more perspectives - for example Cate's Blog is from the viewpoint of a primary school teacher and parent of gifted children. These blogs are written solely by the person identified and represent his or her views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC.

Comments are invited

We invite comments on our blog entries, by both financial members and registered users (free). Click here to register. Comments may be reviewed and those considered inappropriate will be deleted.

New blogs?

We would also be delighted to consider applications from potential bloggers provided that the applicant accepts that this will be subject to a review process and may well be declined for any number of reasons which may not be shared with the applicant. Applications, which should include a resume and a vision for the potential blog, and suggestions for new blogs, can be sent in the first instance to the webmaster.
