Being a parent is intense, often exhausting and also rewarding. Being a parent of gifted children adds to the mix. I have just returned from the US where, among many other things, I attended a conference for women bloggers, Blogher08. I was impressed with the way that blogs can be used as a support network.

This article by Cate Turner Clark is about how to teach to visual spatial (VS) children whilst expounding that such children are different learners not disabled learners. The article explores these concepts from responses/reflections made about being VS in a school environment by two adult males in their late thirties.

Presented in the North Shore Area, 1pm to 4pm, by Phillip Wolfers this seminar will examine the characteristics of the 3 most common learning modalities - Auditory Sequential, Visual Spatial & Kinaesthetic. Phillip will discuss what each of the modalities mean & how to recognise them, how to "reach" them (communicate effectively), how this impacts on teaching & learning, & why it makes a difference.

ONE OF THE most frequent concerns of parents of gifted children is how
to respond to the heightened sensitivities their children experience.
Within my practice, parents often pose the question of how to help their
children feel confident and comfortable fulfilling their potential, whilst
deflecting the intentional and unintentional hurt to which they are sometimes
subjected.

Current educational research makes much of Vygotsky's theory that the potential for cognitive development is limited to a certain time span which he calls the 'zone of proximal development' (ZPD). Furthermore, full development during the ZPD depends upon full social interaction.
